An original background color key concept from the Disney Studios animated film "Mulan" (1998). Featuring the joyous celebratory moment after Mulan triggers an avalanche that buries the Hun army, the hand-painted concept was created at the studio by Chris Greco and used during the animation process. Color key concepts are used to develop and finalize the color palette, layout of the action, and the overall feel of the scene. When a color concept is finalized during production, it becomes the reference tool that animators use to paint cels and backgrounds and further progress through the storyboarding and layout of the individual scenes. Greco is known for his work as a background artist on several Disney features including "Lilo & Stitch," "Tarzan," and "Brother Bear." Measuring 4.5"x7" overall, with the image itself measuring 3"x5.5", the concept is in very good condition with light edge wear. A piece of celluloid is taped to the concept, hinging over it to protect the paint.
